For many seniors, selling a home is about much more than putting a sign in the yard. It may mean leaving a home they've lived in for decades. As a result, many seniors have accumulated a life time of items, so there's many decisions to be made - what to keep and donate, where to downsize too, and the task of preparing the home for sale.
For families and seniors, the process can quickly feel overwhelming.
Your client tells you, "I'll get to it someday," or "I'm just not ready yet," or "I have some things to go through first..." The plan to move is put off because it's a monumental job!
That's where a strong partnership between a realtor and a senior move management company can make all the difference.
At HUGO & Company, we work alongside realtors to help senior clients navigate the many steps that come before, during, and after a move—to reduce that paralyzing feeling of being overwhelmed...
A Partnership That Makes Moving Easier
Realtors are experts in helping clients sell their homes. But when a senior has lived in that home for 20, 30, or even 50 years, getting it ready to sell can be a significant undertaking.
HUGO helps take care of the moving process, while the realtor focuses on selling the property. It's a partnership that allows each professional to do what they do best.
How HUGO Supports Your Senior Clients
Every move is different, but our team can help with the many details that make a senior move feel overwhelming.
PART ONE: THE MOVE
Curating & Downsizing
We help clients determine what should move with them. What's their favourite chair(s), lamps, artwork, etc. Do they need us to source a smaller couch or a different sized bed (often we source an electric bed for clients). Our focus is to move the client first with compassion and dignity. If the client is moving to a suite with a kitchenette, or smaller kitchen, we make recommendations on the amount of plates, cups and cutlery. We consider if they drink tea, coffee, or both.
These details are important so that when they walk into their new home, it's familiar, comfortable, and has their favourite things. We tell our clients that we recreate home for them.
Plus, the client can focus on what they want to bring with them. It's an easier approach.
Planning the New Space
Moving into a smaller home, condo, or retirement residence often means there is less space to work with. We can help clients understand what will fit in their new home through floor planning which helps them make decisions before moving day arrives.

Packing & Coordinating the Move
Once the decisions are made (ie. what they want to bring, moving day is in the calendar), we help bring the plan together. From packing and organizing to coordinating the move, our team manages the details so that seniors and their families don't have to carry the entire burden themselves.
Unpacking & Setting Up the New Home
Moving day with HUGO means you do NOT arrive home to boxes. Hooray! HUGO unpacks, arranges furniture, organizes the kitchen and bathroom drawers, makes the beds, hangs the artwork, and help recreate the feeling of home in the new space. Our interior design expertise allows us to go beyond simply moving belongings—we think about how the new home will function and feel. Of course, no moving supplies are left behind. Our clients walk into a tidy, cozy, and finished space that feels like home. What a huge relief...

We want move day to be calm not chaotic. While our team handles the move, we encourage our clients to plan a relaxing day ie. spend time with family, a spa day, meal with friends, golf, etc. We'll provide updates by text or phone regarding our completion time.
PART TWO: CLEAR OUT AND HOME PREP
Decluttering & Preparing the Home
We also offer clients our clearing out services. That means, after they move, or even on move day, our move crew can disperse of the remaining items ie. to family members, donation depots, junk removal, etc.
We can work with leftover items to stage the clients home. Additionally, we can arrange for minor repairs and painting. Our design skills helps makes the house look it's best.
After part 1 and 2, it's time for the realtor to sell!
Helping Families Navigate Difficult Transitions
For some seniors, moving can be especially challenging. This is particularly true for those living with dementia or other cognitive changes. Our team brings specialized knowledge and a compassionate approach to these transitions, helping families navigate the move with greater care and consideration.
Why Realtors Choose to Partner with HUGO
When a realtor refers a senior client to HUGO, they can feel confident that their client has support beyond the sale of their home. The realtor can focus on the real estate transaction, while HUGO helps manage the practical and emotional work of moving.
Together, we can help make the transition smoother for everyone involved.
The result? A senior client who feels supported, a family that feels less overwhelmed, and a realtor who can focus on selling the property.
A Move Is More Than a Transaction
At HUGO & Company, we believe the process deserves thoughtful planning, compassion, and care. By working together, realtors and HUGO can help seniors in our communities move forward with confidence.
